About me

PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT TAKING ANY NEW CLIENTS AT THE MOMENT.

Thank you for looking at my web page. If you are interested in seeing me please email or phone me. If I am not able to answer, please leave me a voicemail and I will contact you as soon as I am free.

I have always been interested in health; I suppose it was because I didn’t have much of it – I was always so sickly*. I wanted to be fit and healthy and be able to play sports like the other girls, but no matter what the doctors advised or drugs they prescribed I remained unwell for many years.

As a teenager I tried every high street health product, I danced, I exercised and my health did improve somewhat, but not enough.

I was determined that my health conditions were not going to stop me getting on in life so I worked hard and played hard and achieved well, but the stress paid its toll and yet another health condition came my way.

Luckily I married a wonderful man and we have a gorgeous son, things were looking good, then another health issue struck me down. I suffered for a few more years - then I got mad. Why was this always happening to me? What was I doing wrong?

Over the years I had learnt a lot, but never in a structured way and I never used practitioner strength supplements or focused therapy to make a difference. So backed by my family, I decided to take the plunge and train as a Nutritional Therapist to find some answers.

It was a tough course, studying isn’t easy while juggling health issues, work, home, family and social commitments but I persevered and wow did I learn a lot! My eyes had always been open to what was going on in the World of food, health and nutrition, but during my studies and even more so after qualification, I am truly amazed and flabbergasted, at some of the things I have learnt and uncovered.

Health, Food and our Environment should never be taken for granted – they are all intrinsically linked. For example in 1977 the Americans changed their dietary advice and we followed suit in 1983. The diseases the "new diet" was supposed to improve skyrocketed and new ones appeared on the scene!! Can you see the connection? Yes, what you eat does have an affect on your health! But what foods should you eat? Are you confused by all the conflicting advice?

But what about my health, I hear you ask. Yes I can truly say it improved DRAMATICALLY. I actually got to the bottom or the cause(s) of my sickliness and invested time in nurturing myself back to health and now I feel fitter and healthier, and think I even look younger, than I did 10 years ago! Don’t get me wrong, there are no magic bullets; it took dedication, the willingness to change not only eating habits but lifestyle changes too. I was a complicated case: I had to carry out diagnostic testing to find out what was going wrong in my body and take supplements too, but I think it was well worth it. Not everyone is as complicated as I was, especially if you start to look after yourself BEFORE dis-ease sets in!

In fact I feel so strongly about it I am determined to pass this knowledge on to help you make a difference to your health, whatever you are struggling with.  I will use the science of nutrition to educate and empower you to improve, manage or overcome your conditions, to help you achieve your optimum health, peak performance, desired weight, and for disease prevention too; and take it from someone who has been there, done that and got the t-shirt - it is NEVER to late too start! Give the Body the right Environment and IT can achieve MIRACULOUS HEALING.

Please be advised that if you have a medical issue you should in the first instance seek medical advice and diagnosis from your NHS practitioner and advise them that you are seeking/undertaking nutritional therapy. Nutritional therapy does not replace medical advice (drugs or procedures) but it can be used safely in conjunction with it and often, in many cases, like I have proven in myself, reduce the need for it.  A number of pharmaceutical drugs may limit the use of some supplements.

What is Nutritional Therapy?

As I see it Nutritional therapy is a science-based, personalised holistic healthcare approach that seeks out the underlying cause(s) of symptoms and health issues. Through bespoke programmes balance is restored and health and function improve by using dietary, lifestyle and exercise recommendations and where necessary, diagnostic testing and supplementation. I use the Functional Medicine model and may suggest simple tests that you carry out at home or at my office or specific laboratory tests when applicable. I may also include naturopathic treatments or recommend other therapies. As such the Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy that I practice is truly a holistic approach to health - the way NATURE INTENDED.

Nutritional therapy recognises that we are all bio-chemically different based on our genetic make up and our interaction with our environment. This individuality is an essential part in formulating any nutritional programme as each person has unique dietary and nutritional requirements.

The health symptoms that we experience are often a sign of deficiencies and dysfunction in our bodies, these can be physical, mental and spiritual. As such it is not just about what we eat and do, but also about how our bodies process and react to what we eat and do.

What happens at a Consultation?

My protocols are based on a thorough analysis of your unique story. I dig deep into: your health issues and symptoms, your family medical and dietary history, your toxic overload, your social, lifestyle and exercise history and the analysis of functional and biochemical tests.

I analyse your diet, what is over consumed or lacking from the diet, to identify the main triggers of your health issues. Recommendations will be made to support your individual needs, there is no one size fits all treatment plan.  Please allow around 90 minutes for your initial consultation.

Ultimately, the aim of nutritional therapy is to provide the raw materials your body needs to support its innate ability to regulate and heal. In this respect we work together to find a solution that will work for you, in your everyday life. You then put the plan into action for 4-6 weeks before returning for a follow up consultation where adjustments or additions may be suggested. I supply, and firmly believe that, ongoing support and education is essential for success, to give you the best possible chance to make the necessary changes that will have the greatest impact on your health, well-being and life. I sincerely want you to attain the best health you can and I will provide as much, or as little, support as you need to reach it. This is YOUR LIFE - YOU have the right to LIVE IT TO THE FULL.

* In line with current Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) legislation I cannot be more specific or indicate that I have improved my health, with nutrition.

Training, qualifications & experience

I initially studied Biochemistry (distinction) and Biology at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition (ION) followed by 3 years at the College of Naturopathic Nutrition (CNM) studying Bio-medicine, Naturopathic Nutritional Medicine and Clinical Practice. I am now a qualified and registered Nutritional Therapist (DipCNM) and a fully insured member of The Federation of Practitioners of Nutritional Therapists (mFNTP).

I had the pleasure of studying with Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride and qualify as one of her Certified GAPS Practitioners. GAPS stands for Gut & Psychology Syndrome, basically its the link between the gut and the brain and the effect that any imbalance (in the gut) has on health especially immunity and neurological function. The GAPS Diet and protocol has been used successfully for gut and neurological conditions for many years and during this time has also shown benefit for many physiological conditions also. Please contact me for further information.

I was also one of the first students to complete the Roderick Lane ND, Phd, Endocrine Masterclass, which included studying all the endocrine glands, the glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream (adrenal, hypothalamus, islets of Langerhans (pancreas) ovaries, parathyroid, pineal, pituitary, testes and thyroid).

I continue to study extensively to enrich my knowledge and because everything to do with health really interests me. How we breathe, hydration of the cells, absorption of nutrients from the food we eat, how the thoughts we have, the amount of sunlight we absorb, the toxic soup we are exposed to everyday can affect our health and how this toxic overload can be reduced and detoxified - dental amalgams, electro smog (radiation), food intolerances, cooking methods and equipment used, man made fabrics, nutritional deficiencies and the effect on society, farming methods, food manufacturing processes, soil depletion, GM foods, Codex Alimentarius (research this if you don't know what it is!). I include many natural therapies and a whole lot more......

Further information

Disease does not just happen, it takes years to manifest. I believe that disease starts when the body becomes imbalanced and yes, we can be born unbalanced. Genetics do play a part but it is our environment, both internal and external, that has the ability to switch our genes on or off.

Therefore, what we encounter in our day to day life has a dramatic effect on our health. Unfortunately, we cannot escape some of the “chemical soup” we have created, but we all have the ability and opportunity to find and provide ourselves with the best ammunition we can so we can function happily and healthily within this environment.

It is my aim to provide you with this ammunition; all you have to do is use it...

The list of areas of nutrition that I deal with is extensive. This is because I do not treat the dis-ease or the condition. I treat YOU, the PERSON. My aim is to find YOUR imbalances and help YOU to put them right. Your body can heal if YOU give it the right conditions.
