As a BANT member, I adhere to the professional association's strict code of conduct. In so doing, I aim to attain the highest standards of integrity, knowledge, competence and professionalism in the practice of Nutritional Therapy.
My interest in health and fitness began in childhood with my love for sport. In particular, I excelled at running and competed for my local athletics club. But this passion was often at odds with my childhood 'growing pains', which I subsequently discovered were the manifestation of a dairy intolerance. It was that discovery that set me on my path to nutritional therapy, albeit some years later.
After starting my career in law, I moved into publishing where I worked in the Health & Fitness, Mind-Body-Spirit Division of a major book publishing company. It was in that environment, which coincided with a stressful period in my life where I felt over-whelmed and lacking in energy, that I was ultimately inspired to follow my passion for nutrition and health and pursue a career in nutrition.
Because of the food intolerance symptoms that I had experienced in childhood, I was well aware of the connection between food and health. It was this experience that made me believe that nutrition was the answer that I needed to regain my energy and enthusiasm for life. And then I wanted to show others how good nutrition could turn their lives around too.
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including massage, aromatherapy and nutrition.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT)
The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy is the professional body for Nutritional Therapists.
There are different BANT membership classes, including Full Member, Fellow Member and Student Member.
All BANT practitioners must have met the required standards of training, be fully insured and adhere to the BANT Code of Ethics and Practice.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
