About me

I am a fully qualified Registered Nutritional Therapist and Specialist Bariatric Nutritionist with over 16 years of clinical practice specialising in weight loss and weight loss surgery nutrition and lifestyle, gastrointestinal problems and hormonal health.

Our Patients:

Many patients are referred by clinics specialising in weight management, weight loss, bariatric procedures and surgery, specialist consultant gastroenterologists, endocrinologists and GPs.

"Many of my First Time patients come to me in a state of desperation, having run the gauntlet with the full spectrum of unsuccessful programmes. These range from fad diets and regimes to GP guidance, Private Spas & Clinics. I am often amazed by the amounts of time and money they have invested with very little to show for it."

"Whereas every patient presents their own unique combination of personal, emotional and biochemical/nutritional factors that conspire to give rise to unwanted symptoms, my depth and breadth of professional experience allow me to focus quickly on the key areas of imbalance."

Our Ethos:

Our professional practice is based on the sensitive interplay of:

  • Knowledge & Experience,
  • Empathetic Therapeutic Relationships,
  • Motivation.

With Knowledge & Experience comes an understanding of the hard factual science behind your condition. This includes the science of Biochemistry and Human Physiology in the context of your detailed lifelong medical history as defined through comprehensive questionnaires, past and current investigations and a focused interview process.

With an Empathetic Therapeutic Relationship comes my sharing with you the burden imposed by your condition. This includes self-esteem, family pressures, social & emotional stresses, ability to cope. I am on your side and will provide the continuity of care you need through your journey back to great health.

With Motivation comes the “Can Do” attitude that may have abandoned you in the past. Your level of Motivation to achieve your Health Goals will determine your level of success.

We focus on that Motivation from Day One!

TESTIMONIALS:

Paola T wrote about her weight management programme with Natalie...

"I am seriously impressed. This is the first time in my life that somebody understood my issue about weight straight away and I can already see results! Thank you sooooooo much!"
Paola T,

Rick P wrote about his post bariatric surgery patient care by Natalie...

"Without Dr. Gillan’s great support and consultation, the intra-gastric balloon would have been an unutilized tool and it would have not resulted in the dramatic weight loss that I have experienced."
Rick P

Fiona G wrote about her complex journey back to well-being with Natalie's support...

"Thank you Natalie…
For almost 8 years I have suffered from a blend of symptoms that ranges from discomfort (on a good day) to debilitating pain (on many days)… until now (I am touching wood as I say this).
In no particular order, these symptoms included: poor sleep, nervousness, bloating, loss of appetite, cramps in my stomach, heart rate racing and irregular, tenderness in my scalp, low energy level, and so on.

My seemingly endless visits to all manner of medical specialists and generalists included functional medicine and cognitive behavior therapists but to no avail.
The general consensus was the totally unhelpful diagnosis of either unknown source (from some) or a functional disorder (from others)…
…until I found you through the Nutritionist Association website (BANT).

Your painstaking focus on ALL my medical history, your use of a comprehensive set of focused diagnostic tests plus your coordination with my GP and the second round of specialists that you guided me to, have unraveled the complex root of my problems. And the pain is under control and many of the symptoms are gone completely. Your calm, professional manner and relentless persistence on my behalf were key factors for me.
Thank you Natalie for being with me every step of the difficult way over the past 6 months as I regained control over my body, my emotions and my professional role and breadwinner of the family.
Life is good again!"

Clare S describes her return to her "energetic glowingly healthy slim" self as Natalie's patient...

I am an energetic, glowingly healthy slim 38 year old woman...but this was not always the case. Before I met Natalie Gillan I was a fatigued, tired looking, moody mum who relied on sugary snacks and caffeine to get me through the afternoon. I often needed to nap with my daughter everyday.

I suffered from sleeping problems (despite my daughter sleeping through the night) and had skin irritation since I was 14 years old and about every 6 weeks I was getting ill with “food poisoning“ like symptoms for about 24 hours.

Frustratingly, my diet was actually quite good which made me realise that I couldn’t solve these problems by myself. I had tried various diets and cleanse programmes to get my energy levels up but nothing seemed to be working.

My objective when I first saw Natalie was to increase my energy levels and just to feel “well” again.

My case was quite challenging as all the problems I’ve mentioned were actually linked and for Natalie it was a case of finding where best to start!

In an inter-related case like mine, Natalie’s approach is perfect as she decided to tackle things in stages so that we could measure progress as tackling all of the problems at once would not have worked. As my issues were mainly related the hormone system of the body, there has to be a place to start, which is why you need someone like Natalie to unravel the problem. In addition to nutrition and lifestyle advice, Natalie likes to “hit things hard” with supplements. In my case this really sped up the progress I was to make.

We started with stabilising my blood sugar with a low Glycaemic Load diet, supplements and eating at certain times of day; which with the exception of the supplements has become my daily routine. I felt the difference within days in a reduction in sugar cravings and an increase in energy levels.

Over the next few months we tackled with nutrition and supplements, stabilising my female hormone levels which my husband in particular has felt the benefit of....no more irritable wife! We boosted liver function, which is the powerhouse of your body.

I then chose to investigate food intolerances with Natalie’s help, which is where things got particularly interesting. I was found to be intolerant to dairy, yeast, eggs and corn and within 4 weeks of giving up these foods my skin irritation of 24 years has almost completely gone. I was amazed and thrilled as this was side effect of what I was doing as I never sought nutritional therapy for my skin irritation. I’m now working through a programme of re-introducing theses foods with Natalie’s guidance to see if I can tolerate them again.

The changes I’ve made have also had an impact on my family as they are by default healthier. I am constantly asked what skincare products I use as my skin glows and I sometimes don’t even wear make up anymore. I’m also a stone lighter, which was the baby weight I couldn’t shift. I’m also running, swimming and going to the gym again, which would never have been possible before I met Natalie.
