Bridging the Gap Between Nutrition and Weight-Management Medications
Weight-management medications such as Ozempic or Mounjaro must always be prescribed and overseen by a qualified medical professional. However, if you are planning to use, currently using, or preparing to discontinue these medications, working with a qualified nutritional therapist can provide valuable complementary support.
Many individuals experience appetite changes, digestive shifts, or alterations in routine while using GLP-1 medications. These changes can make it more challenging to maintain a nourishing, balanced diet. Nutritional therapy supports sustainable eating patterns, overall wellbeing, and reconnection with your body’s needs throughout this transition.
From my clinical experience and education, I view these medications as a potential bridge towards improved metabolic health and long-term well-being. Nutrition and lifestyle guidance help strengthen that bridge by building practical, long-term habits, including:
- Creating balanced meals with adequate protein and fibre
- Supporting hydration and electrolyte balance
- Encouraging appropriate physical activity to maintain muscle mass
- Managing common side effects through dietary strategies
- Supporting mindful eating and a positive relationship with food
- Meal planning and shopping support
- Identifying potential nutritional gaps and discussing appropriate supplementation where suitable
Research suggests that individuals who receive structured nutrition support alongside weight-management interventions are more likely to achieve sustainable, long-term outcomes compared to those without lifestyle guidance. All recommendations are tailored to your individual goals, preferences, and lifestyle, ensuring an evidence-informed and ethical approach.
My professional interest in metabolic health and weight management has been shaped by both personal experience and a family history of cardiometabolic diseases. In my late twenties, I gained approximately four stones (over 20 kg) due to poor dietary habits. Through sustainable nutrition and lifestyle changes, I restored my health - an experience that deepened my understanding of long-term behaviour change.
This journey, combined with over 15 years of professional experience in nutrition practice, underpins my commitment to preventive, evidence-informed support for sustainable metabolic health and weight.
Health is Wealth.
