Happy wife – happy life

Does this sound familiar:  you started a new diet plan Monday, but your life is busy, you get tired of cooking and eating weird foods that you don’t even like. You get frustrated and you quit it all together by Friday evening.

You feel like you just cannot do this. You feel a bit like a failure. It hurts. Ring a bell? I certainly was one of those ‘starting Monday done by Friday’ kinds of girl.

But from 15 years’ of client experience, a missing link here is a lack of accountability.  Definition of accountability is: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions.

Being accountable to your cause and why you are doing it will help you to stay on the path when things get tough and keep you motivated along the way.

One of my favourite quotes: "Accountability is the glue that ties commitment to results."

Obviously, accountability is not only important when it comes to food and weight loss it’s important for many other areas of life.

Just a quick story here: at the beginning of October I paid for a month's online yoga classes as I really felt the need to calm my mind and body. Classes were three times a week - Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. I did yoga every single day for a month except one Saturday morning when I needed to go somewhere!

In November I have not paid for my yoga classes. Confession: I have not done yoga once this month, and it’s 25th November!

I still need yoga to calm my mind and body. I know that. I have 1000s of yoga YouTube videos available for free online. But I do not do it. Why is this? I am not accountable to anyone. And I’m just not strong and focused enough to do it on my own. Not proud of that. But have to acknowledge it.

Also, I felt super guilty talking about accountability to you lovely ladies but I was not doing it!

The good news: I  paid for a month of yoga classes last night! And I will be on that Zoom at 7.30pm this evening. This makes me happy and proud.

Oh yeah, I talked to hubby and he will help with family dinner arrangements. He’s okay with it – happy wife – happy life…and he knows it!

Just to say here: being accountable to anyone is good…your mother, sister, best friend (BFF) or a professional. Mind you, being accountable to your BFF might not always the best idea.

Imagine you come to your best friend to complain about your hard nutrition day and battle with those cravings. But all she does is pat you on the back saying: ‘Ohh poor you’ let’s have gin and tonic" which is hard to resist, yet not the best weight loss solution.

When it comes to successful weight loss recipes, and 21- day meal plans are important but also your accountability. Who are you accountable to?

With love and empowerment,
