Expert motivation tips
The team at Garage Gym Planner asked over 100 experts their top three motivation tips to make you a happy, healthier person in 2017. We feature just three of the experts asked, but be sure to comment below and share your top tips for staying motivated, even when the weather is cold, wet and you would rather hide under the duvet…
Look inside yourself for motivation rather than outside. Think about what you want to achieve and why - only when we go deeper into the reasons do we truly become motivated.
Don’t set too many goals. Goals and aims are great, but too many can become unachievable and if we fail, we lose drive and motivation.
Surround yourself with people on a similar journey. If you take a friend to the gym with you, you can share the journey and motivate each other with highs, lows and everything inbetween.
It’s easy to procrastinate and ‘start tomorrow’ but the best thing to do is start now.
Take it one step at a time. The health journey can seem daunting, but making small changes can make it seem a lot more manageable.
Schedule your workouts like an important appointment - you wouldn’t cancel on your doctor, so instil the same sense of importance to your workouts.
Motivation won’t always last, so focus on forming habits instead. Even on the days when you really don’t want to, head to the gym and stretch or go on a walk.
Prepare for emergency - if it’s impossible to get to the gym or it’s super busy, make a plan of action so you still get in a workout, whether it’s at home or in the park.
Remove your zero days. A ‘zero day’ is the one where you aren’t getting any closer to a goal - if you get to 11pm on a Wednesday, don’t write the day off, just do something.
