Confused over what's 'good' or 'bad' for you?

Countless numbers of clients tell me they no longer know what they should or shouldn’t eat as every report in the media contradicts the previous day’s statement. My reply is to always find out who sponsored the latest piece of research or who’s on the board of the university or body that’s just published the findings. You’re likely to find one or more of the world’s prominent drinks or food manufacturers behind many of them.

Interestingly, the recent Times’ online edition (October 14th, 2015) exposes over a dozen British scientists who have financially gained from their association with a well-known fizzy drinks giant.  These same influential doctors and political advisors have been casting doubts over the now well-published and accepted link between obesity and sugar consumption.

Add to this the constant association of the same ‘junk’ food manufacturers with sports, through expensive sponsorship and ad campaigns and it’s no wonder we’re confused! Thankfully, the public seems more accepting of the fact that something needs to be done to stop the obesity epidemic and support for a tax on sugar is growing.

So trust your gut feeling when it comes to food, stay as close to nature as you can – and take every media report with a (large) pinch of salt.
