About me

Hello, my name is Mairi and I am a registered dietitian with over 21 years experience. I have worked in several hospitals throughout the northwest and I now provide private nutritional advice to my clients in 1-2-1 appointments in Lancaster or Preston or online via video call or email.

I enjoy supporting people to have a greater understanding of nutrition and the role it plays in their health. I help people to make food choices that will help to manage their health condition or symptoms while fitting in with their lifestyle and food preferences.

Consultations are available for the treatment of medical conditions such as

  • Digestive conditions such as IBS, Crohns Disease, Colitis, Diverticulitis, Coeliac Disease
  • Food allergies or intolerances
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Heart health- high cholesterol, high triglycerides or high blood pressure
  • Women's nutrition- PCOS, menopause, perimenopause, hormonal weight gain or skin conditions
  • Pre and post natal nutrition
  • Iron deficiency
  • Immune problems, fatigue, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue

I also work with people who may wish to ensure that their diet is healthy and balanced, especially those following diets such as vegetarian, vegan or who are unable or do not wish to consume certain foods or nutrients.

Face to face consultations take place in comfortable surroundings at Stanner Nutrition Clinic, or BMI Lancaster, however for those who have difficulty with time or travel, I offer telephone, online video or email consultations.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated from The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen in 1998 with Bsc (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietetics and have been employed as a Registered Dietitian since then at several hospitals within the North West.

I have held specialist posts in Oncology, Surgery, Intensive Care and Gastroenterology which have given me a broad range of experience in the treatment of complex and multiple medical issues.

I have been involved in the training of both student and qualified Dietitians as well as other qualified healthcare professionals and have lectured on both undergraduate and postgraduate Dietetic courses.

I have completed specialist training through King's College, London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, to provide the low FODMAP diet for IBS.

I cannot recommend Mairi highly enough.I have suffered with Functional Gut Disorder (and subsequent weight gain) for the last 18 months, and this has really affected my quality of life. After no real success through the  hospital tests etc, I turned to Mairi to see if she could help. After 1 consultation I instantly felt reassured that something could be done to ease my symptoms. Mairi clearly knows her stuff and was able to identify possible problem foods and assist me in eliminating them from my diet. She also created a bespoke meal plan for me to follow in order to lose weight, and this is easy to understand and adapt to my lifestyle. The meal ideas are so appetizing. For the first time ever I am actually excited about being on a diet! Becky

Cannot thank Mairi enough for her guidance and support - worth every penny. " Anon

Delighted by the speed and quality of service at my initial appointment. Mairi has quickly set up a meal plan I can try to help alleviate my symptoms and provided me with the detailed information I needed. Would recommend Stanner Nutrition Clinic without hesitation.- Pat Batty

I booked a 1hr session with Mairi last week and have just received my meal plan. I'm really pleased to know that I can still eat all the foods that I like but with more structure and balance. It's a really in-depth and bespoke plan that I have pinned up on my wall. Thanks again for a great service Mairi. I'll certainly be recommending you to friends and family.- Martin Huntbach

I was delighted by the quality of service I received at my first appointment. The meal plan Mairi composed for me was inspiring but easy to follow. It just didn't seem I was on a diet.- Olive Jones

I was very satisfied with my initial appointment with Mairi who had a lot of time to listen to my symptoms and she had already looked at my week long eating diary.
At no time did I feel pressured to make a complete change in my eating but it was suggested to go caffeine free, lactose free then wheat free over a 2 week period. I am feeling confident in an improvement of my symptoms in these early days. It is nice to know that Mairi follows up on your progress and can be asked any questions by e mail to support me.- Wendy Gray

Amazing professional, great listener, took the time to explore my meal routine, even looked up different dishes from my country, Egypt , to provide various different meal options. Has made me a personalised meal plan that i will use and sure will get me the results i need.- Ahmed Ghazal

I have found the information I have received thus far very informative and interesting.
I have been to a few clinics in the past few years but unfortunately nothing worked for me.
The meeting I had was an hour and in that time Mairi got to know a lot about me and what my current situation was.
I have received my meal plan and am about to start on the programme.
I feel confident that this time I will be successful in my goals.
I will let you know after 6 weeks.- George Dean

I have suffered with IBS for a long time. Working with Mairi, I have finally started to overcome issues that I thought I was stuck with!Mairi has provided a great service. Efficient and accessible, Mairi has taken the time to understand me and help me to understand how best to approach Low Fodmap. This is a very intense diet requiring a lot of commitment and I have felt supported throughout the process and have been able to achieve goals I previously thought would not be attainable.I highly recommend Stanner Nutrition - Kris Thurbin
