What areas do I work in?
I specialise in working with digestion, weight loss, female health, stress and fatigue. Although I do deal with a wide range of health concerns, so these areas are by no means exclusive.
Examples of how this can help you
I have a proven track record in supporting clients to successfully lose weight. I also run an 8 week weight management course, which may be of interest to those of you who are based locally. For those further away, I can support via Skype and telephone.
Do you suffer from debilitating conditions stemming from female hormonal imbalances? Have you been told that the only option is perhaps the Contraceptive Pill or HRT, or even a hysterectomy? Not all of us want to follow this route, or would rather address the underlying cause or imbalance. Well, there are natural alternatives to supporting hormone health and balance, through nutrition and lifestyle changes.....
Do you suffer from uncomfortable digestion? You have been to your GP and they have ruled out anything serious but you still feel uncomfortable on a regular basis. Well, through functional testing, I can help identify the underlying cause and support you through diet and lifestyle changes to overcome this.
There are many potential causes for fatigue. I will identify the underlying cause and then work with you making changes to your diet supplements and lifestyle to help you to overcome this and feel like your old self again. I personally suffered with fatigue for around 8 months following a prolonged period of stress and overcame it through nutritional therapy, so I come from a place of personal experience.
Packages for those needing longer term support
I also offer packages for those of you with longer term goals that require a level of commitment from both sides e.g. weight loss or problems with digestion. For example, if you would like to lose a considerable amount of weight, I may suggest a 3 or 6 month commitment with monthly consultations, in addition to weekly motivational calls / sessions to provide you with ongoing motivation and support. This ensures that results are achieved from both sides, You achieve your goal and I have the joy and satisfaction that comes with supporting you on your journey to reaching it. This is why I love what I do!
About me and my approach
I am passionate about helping people to address health concerns or sub-optimal health through nutrition, natural supplements, herbs, lifestyle advice and functional testing. I pride myself in being personable and approachable and like to get results!
I use a functional medicine approach which considers all systems of the body and their interconnectivity and aims to address any underlying imbalances leading to you not feeling as well as you could be.
I have personally experienced many health issues myself and also experienced recovery from them through supporting myself with nutritional therapy. These have included problems with digestion, the results of chronic stress and hormone imbalances.
“Lara has been an absolute God send! She has provided intelligent advice, support and guidance that has enabled me to lead a quality of life that before her intervention appeared to be diminishing at an alarming rate.”
What to expect in your first session
Once you have scheduled your appointment with me, I will send you a sample food diary and pre-consultation questionnaire to complete and return. This provides me with details about your current diet, medical history, symptoms, any medication you may be currently taking etc and allows me to fully prepare for your session. I will usually spend around 1 hour preparing for your personal consultation, using this information.
Your first session will last approximately 1.5 hours, depending on complexity. We will discuss your goals and reasons for coming to me and all the information you have provided. I will also carry out a few physical examinations / checks.
Once I have this information, during the final part of the session, I will talk you through my recommendations, explaining the rationale behind them and why they are important for you. You will also have an opportunity to input to ensure your plan is achievable for you.
Following the session, I will write up your plan and send it to you. I will also carry out any required follow up work e.g. writing a letter to your doctor requesting blood tests, ordering lab tests etc.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Diploma from the College of Naturopathic Medicine in Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy. I am also Registered with the British Association of Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT), as well as the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
Since graduating, I have worked in private practice and helped patients with all kinds of health issues; I have provided drop in / surgery style clinics, as well as providing advice to schools on a consultancy basis, both for stress management through nutrition for the teachers and support for students. One of the schools was a school for children with severe learning difficulties and autism, so I also gained significant experience in this area.
I have written articles for Pulsin and Functional Medicine Magazine and delivered a number of talks and workshops to help raise awareness of the importance of good nutrition and how we might tailor this to address specific health complaints. These have included talks and workshops on stress management, children's health and nutrition, pregnancy nutrition and female hormone balancing.
