I'm a Registered Nutritionist, food-lover and mum of one.
I help mums-to-be feel reassured about nutrition and the foods they can eat whilst pregnant, silencing concerns of weight-gain, and leaving them free to enjoy their pregnancy and look forward to their baby's arrival. I take a non-diet, gentle nutrition approach to pregnancy. I believe it is a unique opportunity to pause and reflect on why we choose to eat certain foods, and to listen to our bodies telling us what we need in this moment. At no other time in your life will you be able to feel the changes in your body, the same as when your baby is growing inside of you. It is a life-changing experience.
I encourage new mums to quieten the noise of diet culture surrounding them after giving birth. I don't believe in dieting to 'bounce-back' - I believe we should focus on nourishing our bodies for the amazing job they have done rather than weight-loss. Trying for a baby, navigating pregnancy and becoming a new parent can all be disorientating, overwhelming and stressful. It can be hard to make sure you're eating well when feeding a newborn and struggling with sleep. But it's important to take time to focus on you and your health, so that you can be in the best position to support your baby. As a pregnancy and postnatal nutritionist, I can discuss an approach to healthy eating with you that fits the needs of both you, your partner and your baby.
I support new mums to navigate the overwhelming amount of information and opinions on infant feeding: whether breastfeeding or formula feeding; traditional weaning or baby-led weaning. I help mums to establish healthy intuitive eating habits for their families.
With over 10 years experience working in the NHS and infant nutrition industry, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to maternal nutrition and feeding babies. Having recently been through the weaning period with my son, I understand the realities of putting nutrition theory into practice - it's not easy! I love helping parents introduce food to their babies - it is such an exciting moment for both of you. As a children's nutritionist, and mum, I am perfectly placed to combine scientific know-how with real world practicality. I have been there, done that, read the research.
