I am passionate about helping to provide individuals with knowledge, empowering clients in understanding their own body and how they can support their health through nutrition.
Every part of our body is made up of nutrients, whether it is fats for our brain, protein for our muscles or minerals for our bones. So it is logical that the content of our diet can affect the content of our bodies and how well we can maintain and support the different parts of our body.
Nutritional therapy is used to help support a wide range of health issues, from simply wishing to check that you are on the right track with your nutritional health, to losing weight, or wishing to gain help with supporting chronic conditions such as digestion issues, hypothyroidism, or hormonal problems.
Prior to a consultation a client will be asked to complete a questionnaire, which will include information about your current symptoms, health history, family history and any medications or supplements you currently take. As part of the questionnaire you will also be asked to complete a 3-day food diary - it does not matter if this consists of just chocolate and coffee, we are here to help not to judge, and this information is used just to get an idea of your likes and dislikes, eating patterns and how best we can help you.
Once at the consultation we may ask you a few more questions to clarify the information you have provided on the questionnaire. This will be followed by a discussion of how nutritional factors may be influencing your symptoms, and some suggestions of what may be of benefit to you. This information is to help inform your decisions as we then work through how you would like to move forward to achieve your aims and support your health. Recommendations may include changes to diet (recipes and full support is provided for any changes suggested), nutritional supplements, lifestyle changes, and/or laboratory tests. These recommendations may be achieved over several sessions, little by little, or you may choose to follow some recommendations but feel that others are not right for you, in which case we will try and suggest alternative options.
We are here to provide you with knowledge and information so that you can be the one making the decisions about how you would like to make changes in a realistic and achievable way. We are here to provide support and advice so that you can successfully work towards your goals of improved nutrition, health and the way you wish to live your life.

Training, qualifications & experience
My original qualifications included a BSc Chemistry and a MSc in Environmental Forestry, working for many years in pharmacies and as a community ranger. However after personal health problems I discovered the power of food and nutrition for my own health and decided to retrain as a Nutritional therapist at Worcester University.
I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Therapy and practice in the Shropshire and Powys borders. My clients have included individuals with complex digestive issues, children on the autistic spectrum, and older individuals with complex medication issues to work around. A lot of my clients are women with hormonal or weight concerns, but although I have a particular interest and experience in digestive health I work with anyone who wishes to use nutrition to support their health.
Over the next 12 months I will be completing an MSc research project. This research project will involve working with doctors and dieticians to collect data during the medical use of the ketogenic diet for epilepsy, aiming to look for possible patterns of change in the body whilst following this diet under medical supervision.
I am a member of both the British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and the government-recognised Complementary and Natural Health Council (CNHC), as well as a qualified first-aider.
