About me

Hi, I’m Clemmie and at my clinic The Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine Clinic (NALM) we help improve the quality of life of people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and other bowel conditions. I am a Registered Associate Nutritionist (MSc, ANutr) and Qualified Nutritional Therapist and I have a wonderful Registered Dietitian, Jess Upton, who works at The NALM Clinic with me to help support our clients.

We don’t believe that IBD has to be a life sentence or that food has to be feared forever. If you are suffering symptoms, we know that, with help and support, you can manage them effectively and support your IBD.

I’ve been there, where you are, feeling helpless, bloated, in pain, exhausted and wondering how you are going to live the rest of your life feeling this way.

Following lifesaving surgery to remove my colon having been living with Ulcerative Colitis for 2 years, I continued to experience problems for years, despite being given the all clear. I became ill again after moving to London and working in a stressful job. I felt bloated and exhausted all the time, nauseous whenever I ate, I lost weight, started losing my hair and generally felt terrible; I didn’t know what to do. I got some help and made some simple changes to my diet and lifestyle and I immediately started to feel better; my bloating reduced, I had so much more energy and I got my life back. That experience was so powerful that I quit my job and trained as a Nutritional Therapist to learn more about how food and lifestyle can impact our health.

I never want anyone to feel the way I felt again which is why I set up The NALM Clinic where we are now helping so many people, just like you, across the world, who are living with daily with Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis to help you understand your condition and diet better, help you manage your symptoms, and change your life forever too.

We want to help you but we know it can be daunting to know who to work with which is why we always welcome the opportunity to speak to potential new clients briefly on the phone before any appointments are made. This gives us opportunity to find out more about each other and decide the best route forward for you. We also appreciate you may have questions before committing to the process so please follow this link - https://l.bttr.to/bm7Kl - to book in a free call.

Information about health conditions (*)

Nutritional therapy can help enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting nutritional therapy or making any major changes to your diet or lifestyle.

Additional information

We offer two support options for clients;

1. STARTER SESSION PACKAGE

  • 2 hours of appointment time - usually split as a 75-90 minute initial and 30-45 minute follow up consultation (via video call)
  • Case analysis and health assessment
  • Personalised nutrition, lifestyle and supplement (if appropriate) plan after each appointment.

This option may be suitable for you if you have already made some changes to your diet and lifestyle and want further support and guidance to make sure you are doing everything you can to support yourself. It can also be a good place to start if you are not sure yet about committing to a longer term option (see below).

I will ask you to complete a questionnaire ahead of our first appointment which includes your health history, current health status and a week long food and symptom diary. Then we will have our initial appointment together which will be for 75-90 minutes. This gives me the opportunity to get to know you and for you to tell me about you and your life. We will talk about your journey so far, your current diet and lifestyle, and go through any recent test results (if appropriate). We will discuss your goals and what you’d like to achieve from our sessions together. We will then go through the dietary and lifestyle adaptions for you to put in place to set you on your way to achieving your goals. I will guide you on what the best, evidence based, changes would be for you, but we will also work collaboratively together to ensure any changes are manageable and fit into your lifestyle.

Our follow up appointment will be 30-45 minutes, depending on how much time we used at your initial appointment, and will usually be four to six weeks later. During this appointment we will discuss your progress and make any further changes as needed. If we think at this stage you would benefit from more sessions we can discuss this and work out the best plan forward for you.

All appointments are done via online video call (Zoom) so it does not matter where you live - I work with clients in the UK and across the world.

NB: It may be appropriate for you to have some further tests done either before or during our appointments together, for example, blood tests or stool tests. Usually we will be able to get all these through your GP or gastroenterologist on the NHS. If for any reason we can’t, there are a number of laboratories I work with and can arrange for these to be done privately.

2. SUPPORT SESSION PACKAGE

  • Three hours of consultations over approximately 12 weeks (via video call) - usually a 90 minute initial appointment and three 30 minute follow up appointments.
  • Case analysis and health assessment
  • Personalised nutrition, lifestyle and supplement (if appropriate) plan after each appointment.
  • Support via email between appointments, if needed.

This option may be more suitable for you if you have a specific bowel condition, are at the beginning of your journey into looking at nutrition and lifestyle medicine or want longer term support. This package enables us to work more closely together and I can be there to support you every step of the way.

We will usually have appointments every two to four weeks initially but we will work out what is best for you time wise so you can get the most out of the sessions. I will ask you to complete a questionnaire ahead of our first appointment which includes your health history, current health status and a week long food and symptom diary. We will then have our initial appointment together which will be for one and a half hours. This gives me the opportunity to get to know you and for you to tell me about you and your life. We will talk about your journey so far, your current diet and lifestyle, and go through any recent test results (if appropriate). We will discuss your goals and what you’d like to achieve from our sessions together. We will then go through the first dietary and lifestyle adaptions for you to put in place to set you on your way to achieving your goals. I will guide you on what the best, evidence based, changes would be for you, but we will also work collaboratively together to ensure any changes are manageable and fit into your lifestyle.

Our follow up appointments will usually be 30 minutes so we will usually have three of these but if we need more time at one or more of the sessions we will just use the time in a manner we feel is most appropriate for you so you can get the most from our sessions together.

If we find you need more ongoing support after either of these initial programmes we can add sessions on either in programmes again or as one-off 30 minute or 45 minute sessions charged at £90 or £135 respectively.
