Hi, I'm Annette James. I am a Registered Nutritional Therapist (mBANT, rCNHC), Energy4Life Wellness Coach and Yoga Teacher/Therapist. I'm in my later mid-life years and loving life! My desire is to support other mid-lifers manage their stress/energy levels and prepare themselves for a healthier retirement by encouraging healthy eating/nutrition, enjoyable daily exercise/movement and effective sleep and relaxation practices, thus balancing their Wellness Compass. I support middle-aged adults improve their gut and metabolic health, and help individuals manage autoimmune, cardiovascular, metabolic syndrome and weight-related conditions. If this is you, contact me to book your FREE no-obligation chat to see how I may help.
My career included more than 20 years as a manager in the food industry which ended during the recession of 2008/9. A change in direction saw me become a yoga teacher/therapist and then grow my offering with Wellness Coaching and now Nutritional Therapy. Having endured a decade of chronic stress (and survived!), I'm aware of the negative impact my lifestyle was having on my mental and physical health, and with chronic conditions prevalent in my family, I'm keen to be as healthy as possible for my retirement (whenever that happens!) so I try to practice what I preach on a daily basis.
Fortunately, I love food, being active every day and practice relaxation regularly. I found that by improving my Wellness Compass balance, I created a greater sense of ease, contentment and happiness. For optimal wellness, it's critical to take/make time for ourselves. My role is to support my clients move towards optimal wellness using a functional (lifestyle) medicine approach and recommending adjustments to their daily diet, movement (exercise), rest and relaxation practices that are grounded in scientific evidence. I bring my experience as a yoga teacher/therapist and wellness coach into my nutritional therapy practice to provide a truly holistic offering. Training, qualifications & experience
MSc Nutrition Science & Practice (2020). At the end of the second year, I achieved my Professional Diploma, enabling me to practice as a Nutritional Therapist. My MSc. dissertation was a fascinating study about British middle-aged adults and the relationship between their knowledge and adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (recognised as a healthy eating practice). It highlighted some of the complex choices we make every day regarding healthy eating.
Energy4Life Wellness Coach (2013). This approach blends the ancient wisdom of yoga and modern coaching techniques for optimal wellbeing. The qualification is recognised by the Association for Coaching.
Yoga teacher/therapist (2009). I teach Hatha yoga with a focus on releasing tension/stress from the body and mind, including breathwork and deep relaxation. My aim is to undo knots rather than add more! Initially I taught up to 10 classes per week, but I've reduced this and now offer online classes.
BSc Food Science (1986). Enabled a 20+ year career in the food industry, working in R&D, HR, L&D and Quality Management.
I'm a twice-divorced mum of 2 adult children (one estranged), I live alone but am in a great relationship. I've been through employment tribunal for constructive dismissal and built a successful yoga business prior to relocating from the North West to East Yorkshire.
