Most people won’t need to worry about it, but some will suffer from an underactive thyroid and this will become an issue. Both men and women are affected however it is more common in women with 15 in 1,000 being affected in the UK (versus 1 in 1,000 in men).
The main symptoms are usually tiredness, weight gain, depression, sensitivity to cold, dry skin and hair, and/or muscle aches, and a simple blood test ordered by your GP can get confirm a diagnosis of hypothyroidism.
