Detox your way through winter

healthy snacks

We know we have to keep healthy through the chilly season, making sure our liquids are up and that we are getting enough nutrients to help fight off symptoms of flu.

Despite knowing this, the mere idea of venturing out into the wind and rain to grab a fresh juice sends shivers down our spine. Fortunately detox guru and founder of Gingersnap’s Organic, Jamie Graber, has shared three recipes from her latest book, “Juice It, Blend it, Live It”.

Now you can stay healthy and on top form from the comfort of your own kitchen, nothing could be better!

The juice: Ginger blast

  • 1 full head romaine lettuce
  • 1 whole cucumber
  • 2 thumbs fresh ginger
  • 1 lime
  • 2 kale leaves
  • 2 celery sticks.

Ginger is a great vegetable that can help reduce inflammation, stimulates circulation and can promote good digestion. Ginger can add a fiery kick to any recipe, if two thumbs is too much for you, lower it to one.

The smoothie: Beauty tonic

  • ½ cucumber
  • ¼ cantaloupe melon
  • ¼ cold water
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • pinch of black pepper.

Cantaloupe melon (we like to refer to it as the beauty fruit) is rich in vitamins A and C. These vitamins are important in nourishing the skin and hair.

The seed milk: Hemp milk

  • 2/3 cup hemp seeds
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 4-5 dates
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • pinch of salt.

This is a great way to reach your recommended daily fibre intake. Hemp seeds are a great form of digestible fibre. They also contain all nine of the essential amino acids; this is important as your body needs these to build muscle and cannot do it alone.
