Go nutty for walnuts
According to US scientists walnuts are the healthiest form of nuts and we should all make an effort to incorporate them into our diets.
The experts from Pennsylvania say that walnuts contain the highest levels of disease fighting antioxidants of all nuts and though most nuts have great nutritional value it is walnuts who reign supreme.
Dr Joe Vinson, from the University of Scranton measured the antioxidant levels of nine different nut types and found that walnuts contained double the levels of antioxidants than those found in any other commonly eaten nuts.
The antioxidants present in walnuts are also between two and 15 times more powerful than vitamin E, which is a vitamin known to help protect the body against damaging natural chemicals involved in causing disease.
In addition, nuts are full of protein, fibre and additional vitamins and minerals with research showing that incorporating nuts into our diets can reduce the risk of heart disease, some cancer form and type two diabetes.
