Researchers have found that honey contains a vast array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and bioflavonoids which help to keep the immune system functioning to its optimum levels.
In addition to this, a couple of tablespoons of honey taken on a daily basis can help to encourage a good nights sleep by storing energy reserves in the liver which helps to support and fuel brain function overnight.
Honey also supports friendly bacteria in the gut, which not only helps with digestion but also with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and thrush.
Honey is also a diuretic, meaning that it removes any excess water from tissues and joints, which is great for anyone who suffers from any inflammation.
As if all of the above wasn’t enough to make you go out and buy jars of honey by the dozen, a Pennsylvania State College of Medicine study found a spoonful of honey outperformed over-the counter cold remedies.
