The research team from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)in Massachusetts found that cranberry juice prevents E. coli cells from attaching to urinary tract cells, which is how infection is prevented.
E. coli is too strong to be flushed from the urinary tract simply through urine, but when cranberry juice is in the system, normal urinary flow manages to push out the E. coli.
We already know that Cranberry juice is particularly useful for other conditions and is esteemed for its antioxidant properties. Many drink it regularly to give relief from cystitis, others drink it to decrease incontinence or constipation. The reason it is so successful at treating urinary tract issues is down to its organic acids and fatty acids helping to keep bacteria from sticking to urinary tract cells.
