Kate Swaine - The Edinburgh Clinic Of Nutrition
The Whole Works

I use nutritional therapy and the principles of functional medicine to help you achieve your health goals. Since 2007 I have enjoyed seeing the profound difference that dietary and lifestyle changes can make in my clients' lives.
My initial consultation is 90 minutes. About half of that time is spent on asking you about your health concerns: how they started, what makes them worse or better for example. Having a thorough background helps me to decide the most appropriate dietary changes in your individual case.
The second half of the consultation consists of my recommendations. We discuss these together to find suggestions that you feel you can do. These will firstly be dietary. I may also recommend functional testing eg: to look at intestinal health, adrenal, thyroid or nutrient status. Food Intolerance testing is also available. If appropriate, targeted supplements will be advised.
I am also a Metabolic Balance coach. This is a very effective 3 month diet programme, based on your blood chemistry and using only foods, most commonly used for weight loss. It's great for people who are good at following quite precise plans within a time frame.
As an endurance athlete myself, I am confident in creating nutrition plans for endurance sports. I currently work with cyclists, triathletes, and runners.
Please see my website for any more details on the above.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained in nutritional therapy for 3 years at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition and graduated in 2007 and have run a nutritional therapy practice since then in London and now Edinburgh.
I qualified as a Metabolic Balance Coach in 2016
In 2017 I completed Applied Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) and am currently in training to become fully certified with the Institute of Functional Medicine.
I also run nutrition and yoga retreats in Fife with a fabulous yoga teacher. I do all the meals on site from scratch with organic ingredients plus a workshop. This year I am hoping to start cooking workshops in Edinburgh.
I will never stop learning in the field of nutrition. Recent courses I have undertaken include DNA testing and nutrition, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, Alzheimers Prevention.
My big interests are digestion and hormonal health. The gut, in particular, has such a wide impact on aspects of our health.
I work from clinic face to face and also offer Skype consultations.
I am a member of both BANT and CNHC.
