I passionately believe that what we eat can have a significant impact on how we feel, and that even small changes to daily habits can make a difference over the long term. Food choices can influence health and wellbeing through many complex mechanisms. Food and drink should sustain and energize you, but the modern diet is more likely to be a contributing factor in poor health. The pressures and stress of daily life, the easy availability of convenience foods, exposure to toxins and pollutants, or a shortage of time for exercise and relaxation may take their toll and leave you feeling sub-par.
A nutritional therapy consultation can help you make appropriate food choices to optimise your wellbeing. Dietary and lifestyle changes implemented as part of a nutritional therapy programme can help support many body systems. Depending on the needs of the individual, nutritional therapy may concentrate on optimising energy levels, supporting digestion or managing blood sugar balance. I hope that my enthusiasm and understanding of the links between nutrition and health will enable me help you make dietary choices that will help you to feel better.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have always had a strong interest in food and health but a mid-life health scare motivated me to gain a fuller understanding of how nutrition impacted wellbeing. I embarked on a second career and gained a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) in 2012, followed by a B Sc (Hons) Degree in Nutritional Therapy at the College of Nutritional Education and Lifestyle Management. I am currently working towards accreditation as a Functional Medicine Practitioner with the US-based Institute for Functional Medicine, and have completed advanced modules in Gastro-intestinal Health, Hormones, Detoxification, Immune Function and Energy. I frequently attend seminars to keep my knowledge current and have a particular interest in digestive disorders, auto-immune conditions, cancer and hormonal health. I am a member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and registered with CNHC.
I am Canadian born and my initial training was in finance. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst and worked for over 20 years in senior finance roles in Canada, Hong Kong and London, while raising four children.
I currently practice in Chiddingstone, Kent.
