If you are interested in understanding more about your current health situation and using nutrition and lifestyle improvement to help you to feel great then perhaps I can offer my expertise. As a registered Nutritional Therapist I use my knowledge and skills to help you make healthy changes to your life and to continue making these changes with coaching and support. Unlike other nutrition practitioners, Nutritional Therapists use a functional medicine approach to health, which means we address the underlying causes of disease and the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. It means we can support an individual’s unique expression of health and ensure recommendations for change are focused on their personal needs.
Good nutrition is vital for our health and I am passionate about passing on this message to as many people as possible through workshops, seminars, speaking events, articles, booklets and on a one on one basis.
I have a warm, friendly yet professional approach that puts people at ease, and guides them in a supportive way to make lasting changes to their health. For those who have had chronic conditions for many years, these changes can benefit every area of their lives and give them back the self-esteem that these conditions can often take away.
I am a specialist in fertility, having the amazing experience of helping a number of couples conceive and have healthy pregnancies, many of whom have been trying for a considerable number of years. I also specialise in female hormone balance, gastrointestinal health and chronic pain disorders.
What to expect:
Before the consultation I provide a five day food diary and health and nutrition questionnaire for you to complete. The questionnaire asks detailed questions about current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and diet. I then evaluate your individual needs and use the extensive evidence base for nutritional science to develop a personalised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme, which includes an individualised food plan and recipes, and this will be discussed during the 60-90 minute consultation (time depends on complexity of health condition)
In order to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to your programme, a follow up will take place 4 to 6 weeks after your initial consultation and will last 60 minutes. If required, further follow ups can be arranged, either as a one off or periodically.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my first degree in Leisure Studies, focusing on Sports Management in 1995, and attained several qualifications in coaching, Health-related Exercise for Children and qualified as a NHS accredited trainer in Self Care, a programme which includes modules in both mental and physical aspects of health.
I then went on to gain a BSc (Hons) degree in Nutritional Health from the University of Greenwich and a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy from the UK College of Nutrition and Health (BCNH), a college renowned for top-quality, evidence-based education, where I became a clinical tutor. I keep my knowledge up to date by attending a regular stream of seminars, workshops and training courses focused on specialist areas at a highly advanced level. These include fertility and nutrition, Lyme disease and co-infections, SIBO, and Nutrigenomics, the study of nutrition on gene expression.
I am a specialist in fertility, have a fertility website, am a contributor to Fertility Road magazine and have regular referrals from two local IVF clinics.
I am a pro bono nutrition advisor to a weight management programme for adolescents called SHINE Health Academy and am responsible for designing a menu plan for their annual residential that has been a major factor in significant weight losses for all of the young people attending the residential. I have also been involved in several projects that have enabled young people to make significant and quantifiable improvements to their health, and have authored and co-authored a number of children’s health booklets, which are primarily used by public health departments in the United Kingdom. I also run nutrition workshops and nutrition drop-in sessions for an organisation which helps people with long-term conditions.
I speak regularly. Recent examples have included Mamas & Papas Mums to Be events on nutrition for pregnancy, Care Sheffield Fertility Clinic speaking to the doctors and nurses on fertility and nutrition and Optegra Eye Hospital speaking at a patient evening on ocular health and nutrition. I also speak in corporate environments such as Direct Line, British Gas, Barclays and NHS Leeds demonstrating the links between nutrition and optimum performance, and am a nutrition consultant for three food-based companies.
I am a full member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), the national voluntary regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners, which only admits a select number of practitioners who have undergone an accredited programme of education. CNHC’s register has been approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, an organisation accountable to Parliament, who help to protect the public by working with organisations that register and regulate people working in health and social care.

I met with Elizabeth in the summer of 2015. I had been having problems with my stomach for months and was getting to the end of my tether. She patiently and knowledgeably advised me to avoid certain foods and planned out a healthy daily diet plus a course of supplements to help heal my gut and build my strength back up. My daughter, 17 years, has suffered for the last two years with a skin rash on her neck and her eyes which at its most severe causes discomfort, swelling and bleeding where the dry skin on the rash cracks. We have tried every available treatment through the doctors with no success and as a teenager battling with exams, the angst of growing up and an unsightly rash in a very visible place it has all been very distressing for her. She has a real sweet tooth, constantly snacked, saying she was always hungry despite having a pretty healthy home cooked diet. Mix this with a hormone condition and she started to gain weight around her middle, which was unusual in our family, and was constantly outgrowing her clothes. Just for the record, although it may not seem it with the symptoms I have described, my daughter is a fit, healthy and normal teenager! It came to a head when a stranger approached her at work, pointed to the rash on her neck and voiced her disgust at the rash clearly believing it to be ‘love bites’ – I cannot begin to explain how upset she was. That’s when I contacted Liz Cooper, I located her on the internet, conducted a bit of research on the references provided and booked an appointment. I have to admit, at first, I was a bit skeptical as I thought we ate a healthy, balanced diet but I was prepared to give anything a go. Liz was absolutely brilliant, taking time to understand the issues and analysing the potential causes of my daughters skin complaint and weight gain. Liz explained everything my daughter was doing and how it could be impacting upon her in ways that I had never and would never have considered and it all made perfect sense, not just to me but to my daughter too. Liz suggested a series of foods to remove from my daughters diet and provided a range of simple recipes and ideas for meals to try out. The meal plan and recipes were easy to use and something tasty that the whole family could do without having to make a special meal for one person, which as a mum to three with a busy full time job, convenience was really important. It transpired that my daughter was lactose intolerant and within days of changing her diet the rash had completely gone and she began to slowly and steadily lose weight around her middle. After two weeks she could get into her favourite jeans, had lost 8lbs, was filled with energy and I really mean it when I say she was a new woman and so thrilled with what she had achieved!
Liz used her expertise to identify the potential causes and with a bit of perseverance and some new culinary skills it all slotted into place! Now I know that it might take more trial and error with some people but Liz used her expertise to identify at the outset the most likely causes – and she was absolutely spot on! My daughter no longer complains of feeling hungry, she has cut out sweets and pop, her two real vices with relative ease, with just the first week being a bit tough – that doesn’t mean she doesn’t indulge her sweet tooth but with healthy nutritional treats instead of the sneaky sugar fuelled highs she was indulging in. Three months on she remains rash free, has maintained a healthy weight and the whole family continue to introduce new recipes and food sources – it required a bit of effort at the outset, but it has been good fun trying out new recipes, finding new sources of nutrition I had never even heard of and the rest of my family who were equally as skeptical as I was are true converts!In very simple terms, Liz was brilliant, she has completely transformed my daughter’s and our families life through just two appointments and great email communications. Liz responded promptly to all queries, was always happy to help, however trivial the question and there has been no extreme or faddy diets to master – I just wish Liz had been my first resort and not my last as I would have avoided the last two years of trauma and upset. I started seeing Elizabeth Cooper in January 2015. I had a diagnosed gastrointestinal issue, a condition which causes severe pain in my feet and regular head pain and I was eating unhealthily. I am a vegetarian and I was looking for a healthier way of eating. Elizabeth asked me to complete an extensive questionnaire and was able to detect some issues from that. I was introduced to the Alkaline Plan which I knew little about at the time and I began experimenting with the recipes. Elizabeth prescribed a range of vitamins which helped with various ailments. Since embarking on this programme I have cut out to a large extent; dairy products, wheat, gluten, salt, sugar and processed foods. I now buy fresh ingredients and eat a lot of alkaline foods like avocado, broccoli, spirulina, kale, etc… The plan and the help which Elizabeth has given me has been invaluable. Not only has the pain in my feet and my head and gastrointestinal health improved but I have lost two stone in weight and I am determined not to get into bad eating habits again!!
