Look and feel great with less sugar

We all know we should eat less sugar and that it is linked to health conditions such as diabetes and weight gain. It has been in the news again recently due to the new sugar tax on certain drinks, but will it affect your decision to buy the drinks? Or is it not as simple as that?

Have you got a particular health goal that you want to achieve this year?

Eating less sugar can help with:

Better, clearer, acne-free skin: Why? Because studies show that people who have acne do not process sugar well. This can cause lots of imbalances in the body, including acne.

A better digestive system with less bloating, wind and more regular bowel movements: Why? Because lots of sugar can encourage an overgrowth of yeast in the gut (higher levels than there should be) and this can contribute to digestive problems.

More energy and better concentration: Why? Because if you eat a lot of sugar, your blood sugar levels quickly rise. This is followed by a sudden fall in levels (to a low level) and this contributes to fatigue and energy slumps.

Less stress and anxiety: Why? Because the rise and fall of blood sugar levels mentioned above, causes your body to make more cortisol. Cortisol is one of the stress hormones.

Less colds and infections: Why? Because sugar interferes with the use of vitamin C in the body. Vitamin C is really important for a strong immune system.

Tips to help you to eat less sugar:

It is a good idea to have healthier snacks to hand at home and work so that you have easy alternatives to chocolate, biscuits or cakes. Also, make sure you are eating plenty of magnesium rich foods. Low magnesium levels can contribute to sugar cravings and therefore lead to you reaching for less healthy, high sugar snacks. Good sources include nuts, brown bread and brown rice and leafy green vegetables, such as spinach and kale.
