This workshop translates the theory covered in 'Kindful eating part one' into practice. It is aimed mainly at practitioners working with adults, although anyone interested in exploring their relationship with food is welcome. A version for those working with children and families is also available.
'Kindful eating' integrates mindfulness and compassion. We'll explore how social context, dietary habits and beliefs, intuition and emotional factors impact food choices. A focus is on supporting people to regain a sense of control and ease around food, feel confident in choosing foods to meet nutritional needs and rediscover the pleasurable eating. This happens as people move towards body respect and reconnect with their body signals, so they move on from food guilt to learn new patterns of enjoyable, nourishing eating.
Kindful eating is effective in improving dietary quality with measurable benefits on mental well-being and is the approach recommended for eating disorder prevention and recovery.
The focus on the mind-body link, body respect and gentle nutrition make this approach suitable for professionals helping clients with troubled eating, cravings, IBS and PCOS as well as those supporting anyone seeking an end to the misery of dieting.
Discover how a compassion-centred approach takes people beyond short-term behaviour change to embed sustained improvements in self-care as way of life with benefits for physical and mental well-being. The shift away from the rigidity of diet mentality thinking towards mindfulness also helps make sense of how social factors may influence eating behaviours and how non-lifestyle factors can impact health outcomes. Finally, we’ll consider the ethical implications this evidence raises for conventional practice based on cognitive restraint.
