Though this selection of super foods won’t cover all of your nutritional bases, incorporating them into your diet can help to give you a wide range of protection.
Super Food 1: Low-fat yogurt
Experts say that any fermented dairy product contains healthy probiotic bacteria which will help your body in many ways. The best kind is low fat yogurt with live culture such as ‘lactobacillus acidophilus’, so be sure to glance over the label as some supermarket brands may not have the level of cultures found in more established brands.
Super Food 2: Fatty fish — like salmon, sardines, and mackerel
We’ve all heard of omega-3 and what we are interested in this case is the omega-3 fatty acids DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid).
Fatty fish is extremely important in maintaining membrane health of each and every one of our cells as well as protecting us from numerous health threats including heart disease, stroke, depression, joint pain and rheumatoid arthritis.
Super Food 3: Beans
Beans are not only low in fat, but a great source of protein and fibre and are known to have protective effects against heart disease and breast cancer.

All of the above contain a nutrient known as Lycopene and it is this nutrient that makes for a super food.
Studies into Lycopene have revealed it is protective against prostate cancer and further research is starting to show it may protect against breast cancer among helping to fight and protect from a myriad of other illnesses and diseases.
Super Food 5: Vitamin D fortified low fat milk or orange juice
Vitamin D helps the bones to absorb calcium from the gut as well as lessening the risk of osteoporosis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and tumours of the breast, colon and ovary.
Super Food 6: Berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries)
These fruits protect the body with anti cancer nutrients known as anthocyans which are thought to factor into cell repaid. Extensive research has found anthocyans may decrease the risk of several cancers including those in the breast and gastrointestinal tract.
